23 MEN'S TENNIS With five freshmen on the team, the Flames were one of the youngest teams in the conference. Several first-year players were key contributors. Christian San Andres had a team-high 13 singles wins, earning a promotion from No. 5 to No. 4 midway through the season. Niko Wasilewicz played in all 19 dual matches at No. 2 singles. Johan Hedstrom finished strong with three late-season singles wins, and earned key points in Horizon League matches against Wright State and Detroit Mercy. HEDSTROM NAMED ALL-LEAGUE Carl Hedstrom, the Flames' No. 1 singles and doubles player, earned All-Horizon League accolades for the second straight season. He posted 16 wins at the top singles position and accumulated 10 wins in doubles to finish his career eighth in all-time doubles wins with 41. Hedstrom became UIC's first back-to-back All-Horizon League player since 2010. Sophomore Marcelo Dib led the team with 12 doubles wins, eight of which came on the No. 1 court alongside Carl Hedstrom. After moving up to the No. 3 singles slot, Dib came through with 10 wins, including victories in four of his last five matches of the season, to rank second on the team. The team put together an impressive three match winning streak, defeating Eastern Illinois and Elmhurst in a doubleheader by a combined score of 19-2. The Flames put together a nearly perfect evening against Elmhurst, winning all 12 singles matches in straight sets and sweeping doubles in both matches.
