30 EVENTS UIC Athletics hosted a variety of successful special events including men's and women's basketball preseason breakfasts and Select-a-Seat events, Executive Golf Outing, 23rd Annual UIC Athletics Scholarship Classic and Hall of Fame Banquet, and hosted three Horizon League Championships as well as Midwest Independent Conference (women's gymnastics) and Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (men's gymnastics) Championships. Additionally, alumni and special events were held in the McWilliams Suite, Lagunitas Lounge, and Curtis Granderson Suite. PASS THE TORCH MENTORSHIP PROGRAM The fourth year of the UIC Pass the Torch Mentorship Program eclipsed a milestone by surpassing 100 student- athletes now having taken part. The popular and growing program provides valuable opportunities for UIC upper class student-athletes connect with a variety of industry executives in the Chicagoland area, in order to assist them in preparing for life after college. That assistance came in the forms of job searching, professional development, resume building, how to maximize important contacts and more. The mentor and mentees were in contact throughout the school year, while the group met to build skill sets in one-on-one interaction, speed introductions, and real life networking in a social setting. 355 COMPETITIONS 164 HOME EVENTS 5 CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS 17 ALUMNI EVENTS UIC Athletics hosted two golf outings in 2016, the Executive Invitational at Ivanhoe Club and the Scholarship Classic at White Eagle Country Club. In an effort to be more efficient by going from three outings to two, the results were still extremely beneficial to the scholarship fund, as the gross income again neared the quarter of a million dollar mark. The Executive Invitational sold out with 27 foursomes at the 27-hole layout, while the Scholarship Classic with its new location attracted 30 foursomes. Each event provided a high-end gift package for each golfer, an outstanding dinner and mingling opportunities with UIC coaches, staff and cheerleaders, along with some Chicago sports celebrities.
