15 CROSS COUNTRY The men's cross country team finished second at the Horizon League Championships. They were led by All-League First Team performer Alex Bashqawi, who finished fifth, and All-League Second Team honoree Kyle Hauser, who finished 10th. Zade Kurdieh, Walmer Saavedra and Brixton Rill additionally placed in the top 20 in the field of 90 runners. HAUSER EARNS NATIONAL RECOGNITION Kyle Hauser won two races and also had a second-place finish during the regular season. After his victory at the Rosa Invitational with a time of 25:04.3, he was named the USTFCCCA Divison I National Athlete of the Week. It was the first such honor for any athlete in UIC history. After winning the 6K event at the Flyers/Flames Challenge, he was awarded Horizon League Runner of the Week honors as he ran a personal-best time of 19:00, shattering his previous mark by 22 seconds. Lizzie Deutsch turned in a ninth-place finish at the Horizon League Cross Country Championships with a time of 22:33.0 to earn second team All-League honors. Allison Hansen joined her on the second team by virtue of her 10th- place finish off a time of 22:33.2. Kyle Hauser led five men in the top 11 positions at the UW-Parkside Rosa Invitational, where the Flames took the top overall spot in the men's team standings. Lizzie Deutsch and Allison Hansen each finished in the top four at the Rosa Invitational to lead the women's team to a second-place showing. The women placed five runners among the top 20 finishers at the Bradley Intercollegiate Open, finishing second as a team. The men's team also finished second at Bradley, where seven runners finished in the top 20.
