A C A D E M I C S OPEN FOR NEW IDEAS: Ideas in entrepreneur- ship get the spotlight in JWU's Student Innova- tion Lab on the Charlotte Campus. The space serves as a venue for entrepreneurial courses, experiential learning opportunities, speaking engagements and other events. It's also been a magnet for attracting five new entrepreneurship instructors that Jeff Thomas, J.D., School of Business chair, refers to as the "Fab Five." Students also regularly hear from outside speak- ers, including angel investors and a former Shark Tank contestant who joined the lab via Skype. CROSS-CULTURAL COLLABORATION: When it comes to cross-cultural marketing, it takes more than a translation to be successful. JWU North Miami business students gained a new perspective in cruise and marketing management and logistics from a group of four students and one faculty member from the Rotterdam School of Business in the Netherlands last winter. The Rotterdam group compared and studied PortMiami and Port of Rotterdam and presented their findings to 100 JWU business students in February. JWU students also identified and presented strengths and opportunities for each port. Together, the groups brainstormed strategies to enhance both ports. The partnership with the Rotterdam School of Business was initiated in 2013 by JWU School of Business Professor Leilani Baumanis, DIBA, to foster global collaboration within the schools of business and hospitality at the North Miami Campus.
