D'AMICO AUDITORIUM: If it hadn't been for Louis E. D'Amico '00 Hon., Emeril Lagasse '78, '90 Hon., may have never delivered his famous "Bam!" across the Food Network airwaves. "Cooks will one day be rock stars," D'Amico reassured Lagasse's father when the young musician wanted to trade in his instruments for cooking tools and an education in the culi- nary arts. He couldn't have been more right. D'Amico, long-time mentor, volunteer, and Legacy Trustee, passed away in November 2013. His 66-year history of service to JWU began in 1948 as the university's first faculty member under then-new leaders, Morris Gaebe and Edward Triangolo. A strong sup- porter of education, D'Amico established the Louis D'Amico Scholarship in 2007 to provide aid to accounting majors. In his memory, and to recognize a generous gift to the university from his family, the first- floor presentation center of the Yena Center in Providence will be named the D'Amico Audi- torium. The gift from D'Amico's wife Mary, his children and their spouses — Laurie and Mark Tigan, Louis "Lee" and Martha D'Amico, and Lissa ('98 MBA) and Bennett ('98 MBA) Singer — will be used by the university to advance its most important priorities.
