PA STUDIES: Rhode Island's first physician
assistant program — JWU's MS in Physician
Assistant Studies — opened its doors to its
first class in June.
The 24-month program is housed in an impres-
sive 18,000-square-foot state-of-the-art facility
located at JWU's Downcity Providence Campus,
close to Brown University's medical school and
several major hospitals.
The center houses lecture halls with global
teleconferencing capabilities, active learning
classrooms with cutting-edge technology, group
conference rooms, a clinical skills lab, and a
cadaver-based anatomy lab.
The 23 talented students in the first class of the
two-year, year-round program are engaged
primarily in classroom instruction during the
first year, while the second year is devoted to
clinical rotations.
The program has been granted Accreditation-
Provisional status by the Accreditation Review
Commission on Education for the Physician
Assistant Inc. (ARC-PA).
