CONNECTING WITH FAMILIES: Last fall, JWU launched a new way to keep families connected to campus and engaged in the goings-on of their students. Family Connection, an interactive e-magazine, is emailed quarterly to the families of students from all four campuses. Each issue centers around a theme — say, incom- ing first-year students moving in — with stories from each campus. Stunning photography high- lights feature articles. A parent from one of the campuses greets readers with a welcome letter. The electronic publication can easily target what families want to hear. The editorial board can track open and click through rates to see which parts of the newsletter are of interest to its read- ers. So far, they've gotten it right: Families have passed along rave reviews. "Parents want to be involved now more than ever," says Nancy Hardendorf, director of parent programs at the Providence Campus. "Family Connection lets them know about events and reminders from individual campuses, and high- lights everything that JWU has to offer." JWU LIVE: Led by the Broadcasting Club, JWU's first student-run radio station will launch later this academic year from the Providence Campus. Aptly named "JWU Live," the station will be acces- sible online via JWU Live's website and through streaming apps. JWU Live will broadcast Wildcat pride world- wide, 24/7, with student-directed programming dominating the airwaves. Shows will include various genres of music, as well as sports, news and entertainment. "The radio station will be a hands-on learning opportunity for a multitude of different majors, including account- ing, production management, cre- ative advertising and marketing," says student James Amaral '17, president of the Broadcasting Club. "Students will work within their field of interest while feeling like a part of something much bigger that's fun." The Broadcasting Club was founded by four Media and Communications Studies majors (including Amaral) and faculty advisor Christopher Westgate, PhD, the same year the new major launched on the Providence Campus. "Our primary goal was to found a radio station," Amaral adds. "The Broadcasting Club is now known around campus and the anticipation for the launch of the station is palpable."
