Badgers set to open indoor training facility
I
n a year full of school records, big wins and immense team success, the
Badgers were focused on
living in the moment during the 2013 season, but
it was hard not to think of
the future with a brand new
16,500-square foot training facility rising above the
backstop.

"I've always thought Goodman Diamond had one of the
most beautiful locations in
the country," said UW head
coach Yvette Healy. "When
you can combine a worldrenowned academic degree
with nationally ranked athletics, you have something
special."
Something special is what
@BadgerSoftball
the Badgers are hoping to achieve
with the addition of a new training
facility.
"The scenery of this beautiful lakefront view coupled with this new
state of the state-of-the-art indoor
space will now make the of the Irwin
A. and Robert D. Goodman Softball
Training Center one of the premiere
softball stadiums in the Big Ten and
the country," Healy said.
The Badgers are set to open a new
training facility that will take them to
the elite levels of the Big Ten.
The facility features a regulationsize infield, indoor batting cages,
team conference room and lounge,
new locker rooms and improved athletic training facilities.
It will allow the team to train yearround without the need to share
space.
"We know to take this program to
the next level, it will take year-round
commitment from our student-athletes, state-of-the-art facilities and
blue-chip recruiting," said Healy.
"The addition of the training center
will give us a new competitive advantage on all of those fronts."
The Goodman Softball Training
Center is scheduled to be completed
at the end of the summer and will
make Goodman Diamond a regional
attraction; a facility capable of hosting big events — including NCAA
tournament games.
After winning a school-record 44
games this season and claiming its
first Big Ten tournament title, becoming a national fixture is the next
step for this rising program.
