UNIVERSITY JOURNAL
DONARS GIVE NEARLY $40,000
Colorado Mesa University turned 94 on April 10 and the CMU Foundation celebrated with a 24-hour Day of Giving. A total of 986 individuals donated $39,234 to the student or program project of their choice. There were 18 projects donors could choose to support, and the biological sciences fish & wildlife club scholarship fund won a $5,000 bonus for having the most donors by the end of the day. A giant birthday card was signed by students, staff, faculty and visitors. Representatives pitched their projects during a Facebook Live video including Head Rodeo Coach Branden Edwards (left) and diver Chandler Livingston (above).
STUDY QUANTIFIES CMU'S ECONOMIC IMPACT
Colorado Mesa University remains a significant contributor to the western Colorado economy. According to the 2019 Regional Economic Impact Study, the university contributed $468.7 million in direct and indirect investment in fiscal year 2017-18.
The study quantifies the economic impact of CMU and examines CMU’s direct spending in five categories: the university, employees, students, visitors and capital.
The economic impact comes while CMU makes significant progress towards its academic goals as set forth in the university’s strategic plan.
“The significant impact CMU has on the economy in this region is a result of doing business, but the business we are in is educating people — which remains our driving force,” said CMU President Tim Foster. “The people we educate today will provide future economic benefit long after the contributions of today are celebrated.”
