Kelsey instills belief in
her new team Badgers have bought into coaching style
T
he biggest surprise that first-year head coach
Bobbie Kelsey has had to deal with, really isn't a sur- prise at all. "The biggest surprise to me (is) that all of them have been on board from day one," Kelsey said Monday during media day. "They've all really bought into what

we've been trying to do." The Badgers lose 61 per- cent of their scoring and 42 percent of their rebounding from last season. "Anytime you lose that much scoring, it's always an opportunity for whoever didn't get a chance last year to step up and show what they can do," Kelsey said.
Captains named » Seniors Anya Covington and Ash- ley Thomas, as well as junior Tay- lor Wurtz, will serve as tri-captains for the 2011-12 season. Covington, a 6-2 forward, started nine games last season while Wurtz, a 6-0 guard, is the Badgers' top return- ing scorer and rebounder, averag- ing 8.3 points and 6.4 rebounds per game as a sophomore. Thom- as, a 6-2 forward, has played in 71 games in her career.
Quizzes in basketball? » When Kelsey met with the media on Monday, one of her comments that caught reporters' attention the most was the fact that she quiz- zes her team. "It's a little bit of true/false, a
little bit of multiple choice, a lit- tle bit of diagraming," explained Kelsey. "They have to know what to run when, why and where they're supposed to be, not only themselves, but their teammates, because you can't help somebody if you don't know where they're supposed to go."
