Matt Downin was named Big Ten Men's Cross Country
Athlete of the Year for the second-consecutive year in 1999.
START OF 'THE STREAK'
OCTOBER 30, 1999: Men's cross country won its first Big Ten title since 1996, starting a run
the Badgers extended to 14 straight championships in 2012. UW (38) finished just two points
ahead of Michigan (40) as senior Matt Downin won his second consecutive individual title.

SMELLING THE ROSES
OCTOBER 30, 1993: In one of the most memorable games in Camp Randall Stadium history, the No. 21 Badgers beat No. 24 Michigan, 13-10, to clinch a spot in the Rose Bowl.
LAYING THE FOUNDATION
OCTOBER 28, 1997: Workers poured the floor of the Kohl Center in one continuous
sheet. Underneath the 463 cubic yards of concrete are 11 miles of coolant pipes for the
hockey ice.
LOOKING OUT FOR NO. 1
OCTOBER 31, 1997: The volleyball team defeated No. 1-ranked Penn State, 15-11, 15-7,
6-15, 15-5 at the UW Field House.
