state champion, to heavyweight, where he won
another state title as a senior.
Overall, he went 162-2 his only two losses
coming during his freshman season.
Davis didnt have any trouble finding Medbery,
who won 128 straight matches at Loveland High
School. That wrestling program also produced Tyler Graff, now a redshirt junior at Wisconsin.
Medbery wasnt on Davis radar when he was recruiting Graff, who won four state titles.
A year or so later, though, he was, Davis said.
And we got on him early.

still determining his career path.
I really didnt think about it then, Medbery
said about earning a college wrestling scholarship.
I wasnt really sure that I was going to wrestle in
college.
He didnt make that decision until the summer
leading into his senior year. At that time, he was
just beginning to scratch the surface as a football
player; a 250-pound fullback.
As a junior, he was recognized on the Denver
Posts 4A all-state team.
As a senior, Medbery, who also played linebacker and defensive end, rushed for 1,969 yards. That
was punctuated by a school-record 315 yards in
Lovelands 46-13 win over Niwot.
We ran the ball a lot, he said. All up the middle.
But he has no regrets. High school football
shaped who he is today. So did being an Eagle
Scout, which the 20-year-old Medbery said entailed a lot of hard work and perseverance.

Im striving for a national title, Medbery said.
