W
isconsin quarterback Curt Phil- lips went to the movies Sunday with his offensive linemen. "At the end of the day,'' he said with a shy grin, "they're
the ones who keep my jersey clean.'' They also keep him amused. "They were charting their knockdowns (against Ohio State),'' he said. Because of their competitive fire, Phillips added, "They were arguing back and forth.'' There's nothing like 300-pounders verbally jousting in friendly debate over decleaters.

"I have a lot of fun with them,'' Phillips said. Beyond the camaraderie, he enjoys the perspec- tive that they bring to film study. "You get a different side of it with them,'' he said, "and I love that side of the game.''
Phillips, in spirit, is one of them. He has always
felt comfortable in the company of the O-line, which may underscore some of the intangibles that he now brings to the huddle as a starter. "To have those guys in your corner and vice ver- sa is always good,'' said UW offensive coordinator Matt Canada. "That relationship is important. It's earned, not given.''
