While Krabbenhoft was earning first-team All-State recognition at Roosevelt High School in Sioux Falls, he gave some consideration to coaching. "I always thought it would be a good fit for me,'' he said. At Wisconsin, Krabbenhoft answered some fill-in-the-blank questions for an "Off the Court'' feature in the media guide. Responding to "Most likely to be a coach'' he said, "Jason Bohannon or myself.'' Responding to "If I don't play pro ball, I plan to'' he said, "Coach college basketball.'' Who knew then – before the start of his se- nior year in 2008 – that he would be so pre- scient? But a few things had to fall into place, not the least of which was UW video coordi- nator Sharif Chambliss leaving Ryan's staff in June to take an assistant coaching job with Rob Jeter at UW-Milwaukee. "I got wind that Sharif was moving on, so I knew there was an opening (at Wisconsin),'' said the 25-year-old Krabbenhoft. "I talked to my wife about it, and it was like, 'Should we give them a call?' They wound up contacting me and that meant a lot. "There were a lot of conversations between me and Sara; a couple of late nights trying to do what is best. But it was really a no-brainer when it came down to it and it was an easier decision than we made it out to be. We wanted to make sure we made the right decision, and we did.'' Krabbenhoft is anxious to learn more about the technology involved in his new assign- ment. Beyond that, the video coordinator posi- tion looms as a stepping stone to the coaching profession. Chambliss followed a path taken by Duffy Conroy (UW-Milwaukee) and Will Ryan (North Dakota State). "I always looked at coaching as a way to give back to the game,'' Krabbenhoft said, "and give back to the players so they can experience what I did. Playing for Coach Ryan – and figuring out how to be successful at this level – is going to kind of pave my way to what kind of coach I'm going to be.'' No translation is necessary. 47
