The unranked Badgers toppled No. 1 Michigan, 21-14, in their season opener after losing four straight matchups with the Wolverines by a combined total of 176-0. After winning the first game of the year, the Badgers finished the season 7-5, falling to Tennessee in the Gar- den State Bowl.
September 7, 1996 THE BEGINING: Freshman RB Ron Dayne made his Badgers debut as he rushed for 53 yards on eight carries and scored his first career touchdown in UW's 24-3 win over Eastern Michigan.

September 8, 1990 UNTOUCHABLE: The women's soccer team beat Dayton, 6-0, to start a school-re- cord 16-game unbeaten streak. It lasted until a loss to Colorado College in the NCAA quarterfinals on Nov. 11.
September 9, 2000 RACING TO VICTORY: Junior tailback Michael Bennett ran for 290 yards, includ- ing a school-record 258 in the second half, to lead the Badgers to a 27-23 victory over Oregon.
