Now leadership at all levels must be prepared to respond to changing business conditions. The revised Executive MBA curriculum maintains its strong focus on values but has retooled to include more courses devoted to business strategy and the skills needed to make critical decisions. It also integrates material devoted to strategic decision-making skills throughout the curriculum. A new first-year course, "Strategic Thinking," provides the structural steel of the program. Two second-year courses—"Systems Thinking and Advanced Tactics" and "Strategic Planning for Growth"—are designed to evolve students' understanding of business problems in terms of system dynamics. Helping prepare Notre Dame's next leaders in the academy Executive Education collaborated with Notre Dame's Office of the Provost for more than a year to create the University's new development program ND LEAD. The program aims to prepare faculty members and others who could one day take key leadership positions at Notre Dame. The nine-month program is designed to give the University's next generation of leaders a fuller understanding of Notre Dame's Catholic mission and strategic goals along with the enhanced management and leadership skills essential for management and stewardship of resources. Participants will include individuals identified as potential department chairs and directors of centers and institutes, among others. Delivering business acumen from a distance An innovative custom program developed for Pace Global Energy Services allows faculty at Notre Dame to teach employees remotely at several of the company's offices. Faculty members participating in the initial offerings include James S. O'Rourke IV, Arthur F. and Mary J. O'Neil Director of the Fanning Center for Business Communication; Nasir Ghiaseddin, associate professor of management; and Sandra Dean Collins, associate professional specialist in business communications. Using distance-learning technology, these faculty members were able to teach 15-20 employees per class at the company's Fairfax, Va., headquarters and its Columbia, S.C., office simultaneously in 2010. In 2011, the program expanded to include a Pace facility in Houston. Pace Global's founder, chairman and CEO, Tim Sutherland, is a member of the Mendoza College's Business Advisory Council.
