And they can't afford the training to bring their current employees up to speed. The new philanthropic Catholic Leadership Certificate Program aims to bridge that gap. The 10-day program includes sessions on finance, board governance and fund raising, along with issues of particular interest to Catholic groups, such as serving Latino populations. The Catholic Home Missions subcommittee of the U.S. Conference of Catholic Bishops sent 10 employees to the inaugural program in 2011 from the missions' 88 geographically remote or under-resourced dioceses. Said Home Missions Director David J. Suley of the program: "What is being offered by the Mendoza College of Business is a sign of hope." New name for nonprofit graduate education For more than 50 years, Notre Dame has served the nonprofit industry by developing exemplary leaders through a specialized graduate business degree, the Master of Nonprofit Administration. More recently, the Notre Dame program has experienced an increased demand for executive programs, as nonprofit organizations face an increasingly complex service environment. 20 The expansion in executive programs led the department to adopt a new name, Nonprofit Professional Development, and positioning, "Servant Heart.
