A senior from Madison, Wis., Jessie Gerry is a three-year letterwinner for the UW women's golf team and co-owns the school 18-hole record of 66, which she fired in winning the 2008 Badger Invitational. Gerry earned Academic All-Big Ten last year and is one of two seniors on this year's UW team.
Did you play any other sports growing up? Mainly soccer, basketball and volleyball, with a little bit of softball and track and field, as well.
How was playing in the Hooters Women's Collegiate Team Championship in Atlanta?
Very hot and humid as you might expect Georgia to be in August, but it was a lot of fun being partnered up with my teammate, Ellie Arkin. The format was unique in that as a team, Ellie and I played alternate shot the first day, best ball the second day, and then just combined our 18-hole scores for the third and final round. The hospitality was great and the golf course, Achasta, was in really good condition. Over- all, it was a very fun tournament and a great experience.
Do you have a favorite golf course you have played? Honestly, our home course at University Ridge is always at the top of my list.
What is your best personal memory of playing golf at Wisconsin?
My freshman year I shot 66 and won the Badger Invitational, but that memory is definitely rivaled by our three team victories since then and qualifying as a team for the NCAA regional championships last spring.
What is your major and what are career plans upon graduation from UW?
Kinesiology. I'm in a physical education teacher education program with a concentration in adapted PE. The plan after graduation is to pursue playing professional golf and see where that takes me.
