In both victory, 22-15 upset over No. 9 Ohio State, and defeat, 28-6 loss to No. 2 Minnesota, the No. 18-ranked Badgers are learning and improving their skills. "The guys did a good job on Friday night stepping up," said W 56 // VARSITY January 16, 2014 UW head coach Barry Davis on the team's upset win over the Buckeyes. "I was really impressed with Ryan Taylor. The way he wrestled, the way he got after it. Frank (Cousins) had a good win, that kind of sealed the deal right there. "We might have left a couple out there, but overall, good dual, good team win." With no time to rest, Wis- consin hit the road for a dual at Minnesota on Sunday, where it suffered its fourth loss of the season. "The score (against Minnesota) didn't indicate how close those matches really were," continued Davis. "A lot of good things came out of the Minnesota dual meet from a coaching point of view. "The score doesn't indicate it, but we as a staff took a lot from it, the way some guys competed, some of the skills that they used. Right now, good things are going on." Wisconsin has a week off before jumping right back into conference competition. UW travels to Indiana on Friday, Jan. 24 and then visits No. 15 Northwestern on Jan. 26. The week off gives UW a chance to continue preparation for its last push to championships. "This break is very important to us as a team," said Davis. "As far as preparation wise, we will build a great base for Big Ten and NCAA championships." The Badgers close out their dual season with three-straight home matches in February before hosting the Big Ten Championships on March 8-9 at the Kohl Center, an event they have been targeting all year. BIG TEN CHAMPIONSHIPS ● Wisconsin will host the 2014 Big Ten Wrestling Championship March 8-9 at the Kohl Center. Tickets are available at UWBadgers.com.
