Rising to the occassion:
Janus fuels UW's offense
Senior has steadily paced UW's attacking unit
ow eight games into its
season, the Wisconsin
men's soccer team is
nearly halfway through its 18game regular-season schedule.
While the Big Ten conference slate has just begun, senior forward Nick Janus has
only a handful of college soccer matches left to play.
And he sure is making the

most of them.
The Deer Park, Ill., native
leads the Badgers (5-2-1, 0-10) in goals (4) and is tied for
first in points (8).
"Nick is a leader on the
team," head coach John Trask
said. "We've used him in a lot
of places over the course of his
career, but he looks like he's
the guy who in a tight game
can find that moment to put

the ball in the net."
Janus has kick-started an offensive
unit that is on pace to shatter its scoring
statistics from a year ago. The Badgers
have already netted 17 goals, just four
fewer than their 2012 total. With an average of 2.12 goals per game, UW is tied
for second in the Big Ten in scoring.
Having such a skilled player spearheading the frontline, Trask emphasized
the importance of using Janus' talent to
the team's advantage moving into the
heart of its season.
"We'll try to build off of Nick and some
of those other guys in the attacking
group," Trask explained.
Wisconsin will have the opportunity
to further its offensive force in a familiar
place, as the team plays seven of its final
10 games in Madison.
HOME SWEET HOME
● The Badgers own a 6-1-1 mark in their
last eight regular-season games at the
McClimon Complex. UW has given up
just seven goals during that span and
has earned three shutouts.
OWNING MARQUETTE
● Wednesday's match will be the 38th
meeting all-time between UW and
Marquette. Despite falling in each of
the last two meetings in Milwaukee,
the Badgers have not dropped a match
to Marquette in Madison since 1999.
