for some key Badgers
during the Mike Eaves' coaching era. A former head coach
for UW-Eau Claire himself,
Eaves has tapped the area for
2006 NCAA champion and
NHLer Jake Dowell, and the
current Badger squad boasts
assistant captains Jefferson
Dahl and Jake McCabe. The
Eau Claire media has followed
their local Badgers closely
over the years.
The city is hot, hockeywise, as UW-Eau Claire won
the NCAA Division III title last
season with McCabe's brother,

With that as the backdrop,
Wisconsin officially opens
practice this Saturday at
Hobbs Ice Arena in the northwestern Wisconsin city.
The event serves as a fundraiser for UW-Eau Claire's
athletic department, while
also giving the city a nod for
its contribution to Badgers
hockey. It's also a way for the
program to get out around the
state in person like it did last
season when Northern Michigan played host to the Badgers
in Green Bay for a seasonopening series.
It is a short week for the
SCHEDULE

Badgers as the season opens just seven
days later when Northern Michigan visits the Kohl Center on Oct. 11.

● An NCAA-best 17 Wisconsin alumni
made NHL opening-day rosters this
season as the league got underway on
Tuesday. Highlights include Ben Street
making his first opening-day roster
with the Calgary Flames, while four
teams boast a pair of Badgers, including Minnesota, Montreal, San Jose and
the New York Rangers. Two Badgers,
Jamie McBain (Buffalo) and Tom Gilbert (Florida), have new teams.
