ARKANSAS Rush Arkansas Rush's Inaugural School of Excellence a Success!! This past spring season was the first time Arkansas Rush offered the School of Excellence as an in-season program to U7 and U8 players in the Arkansas Rush Micro program. The School of Excellence is a player development, skillbased program created by the Rush Soccer organization and implemented by many Rush clubs nationwide to continually develop players and identify players at the most influential time of their skills development. Peter Smith, Arkansas Rush's Director of Coaching, and staff coaches ran an extra session each week for the players enrolled in the School of Excellence. "Right away you could see the players taking the new concepts and skills and applying them to their next training session or game. It was rewarding to see these players progress so quickly," said Smith. Since the spring debut of the School of Excellence, Arkansas Rush held School of Excellence camps including a Finishing and Goalkeeping camp and the popular Skills camp. In 2013-2014, Arkansas Rush will expand the School of Excellence offerings to include a winter camp and a spring break camp. "The Arkansas Rush Soccer Club's School of Excellence program is the bridge and vehicle for any player who wants to take the next step with soccer. This program allows players to individually invest more time in their craft. For those players who want more, we want to make sure we have programs that provide opportunities for them to develop individually. The School of Excellence is a great fit for the eager and dedicated player," says club President Nathan Hunt. Arkansas Rush looks forward to its 2013-2014 School of Excellence offerings and to the continued growth and success of its School of Excellence participants! This past summer proved to be exciting for our Colorado GU12 Rush and GU16 Nero teams winning Far West Regionals and Region IV President's Cup in June 2013. The Colorado Rush GU12 team won Far West Regionals in Hawaii defeating the San Diego Surf in the finals! "We are the Rush" cheers and rally runs could be heard from afar from the GU12 Hawaii and BU15 Colorado Rush teams. The Rush took the early lead in the 16th minute with a goal by Erin Hohnstein, but Surf tied it up soon after. In overtime the Rush girls came out on top early with a goal by Syd Compoz and an insurance goal in the 71st minute off of a counter attack by Macy Clem to finish up strong with a 3-1 victory! "I have never seen a team with more unity than the U12 Rush girls," commented Coach Mike Piserchio. "It was incredible how they stayed positive throughout every game and continued to work, even when things were not going well. In the semi-final when we were five minutes from elimination, the girls pulled together and tied the game through a combination of skill, clever running and sheer heart." Congratulations to the Colorado Rush GU16 Nero team who won the Region IV Presidents Cup Regionals Tournament held in Boise, Idaho! The team finished the week with a 5-1-0 record competing against teams from the western division. With the support of family, friends, and some awesome Rush chants by members of the U13, U14, and U17 Nero teams (who also represented Colorado Rush in Regionals that week), the GU16 team earned a hard-fought 3-2 OT win in the final versus Mission SF United from Cal North. Good luck to Coach Carlo Cornacchia and the Colorado Rush GU16 Nero team as they head to the Presidents Cup National Finals in Auburndale, Florida.
