Walsh no longer interim
Schedule release proves
»
Former Badger Matt Walsh, Big Ten fears unfounded
who helped the program win
the 1983 NCAA title as a defenseman, is officially Wisconsin's
assistant coach. Walsh, (no relation to musician Joe Walsh)
spent the last four months of
the Badgers' season as an interim assistant coach after Bill
Butters left his post as assistant
coach.
With Walsh on the staff, Wisconsin was one of the nation's
top teams. He's a well-respected coach who has been head of
USA Hockey's Central District
Coach-In-Chief since 1995.
That means he has a large
group of strong regional and
national contacts to rely on
when recruiting future Badgers.
»When the Big Ten released its
schedule for the 2013–14 season, its first as an official college hockey conference, you
could hear the large exhale
across Badger nation.
Rumors of the end of the Friday-Saturday men's hockey series were greatly exaggerated.
Wisconsin opens Oct. 11 at
home against Northern Michigan, opens its Big Ten home
slate on Dec. 6 against Penn
State, and may end up playing
its entire regular-season slate
on Fridays and Saturday.
The only possible Thursday
game comes Feb. 6 at the Kohl
Center against Minnesota. That
game will either by Thursday or
Saturday, Feb. 8.
