Alumni shine on national, international stage

ith the late-season
call-up of the Badgers'
2006-07 leading goal-scorer
Jake Dowell, by the Minnesota Wild, Wisconsin saw its
20th alumnus skate a game
in the NHL this season, the
most of any school in the nation.

points during the regular
season, including Kyle Turris for the Ottawa Senators and Derek Stepan for
the New York Rangers, the
group proved a major force
in the just-completed first
round of the NHL playoffs.
Highlights included backto-back game-winning goals
for Stepan in the Rangers'
seven-game series victory over the
Washington Capitals, Joe Pavelski's
four goals and eight points in San Jose's sweep of Vancouver and a Turris overtime game-winning tally in
Ottawa's game four victory over the
Montreal Canadiens in a five-game
series win.
Of the 11 Badgers who skated in
the first round, six scored goals (Stepan, Pavelski, Turris, Rene Bourque,
Brendan Smith, Jake Gardiner).
There are six remaining skaters
spread out among four teams. All
four play squads without any Badgers alumni, which means all four
could advance to the conference finals. That would mean a new name
or two would be added to the list of
13 Badgers who have already won the
Stanley Cup as players.
