Fresno State tacked a 4-6 record on the season which qualified them as one of the top 12 teams in the nation to compete on the grand stage at the VENC. The Bulldogs entered the National Championships ranked seventh in the Hunter Seat competition and 11th in the Western competition. The Hunter Seat team competed against No. 10 UTM in the first round and fell 5-3. Kimberly Steinbuch was the only Bulldog to win her point on the Equitation on the Flat. In Equitation over Fences, Holly Elsbernd defeated her opponent by seven points with a combined score of 159 from both judges which was recorded as the highest score for a Bulldog in that event. Freshman Hillary West also rode for the win in Equitation over Fences earning a total score of 140. At the VENC the Western team took on No. 6 TCU and fell 6-1. Shawna McClurg was the only 'Dog to earn a victory in the head to head match-up and she ended her run with a total score of 144 in the Reining event. Reining captain Jillian Tebbe tied her opponent with a score of 139.5 to end her career as a Bulldog. Fresno State had two Honorable Mention All-American riders and those two Bulldogs were junior Kimberly HewsonBudnik and junior Holly Elsbernd. The 2010-11 season marked the first year Varsity Equestrian honored All-American status as well as Honorable Mention All-American status to the top equestrian student-athletes in the country. Honorable Mention All-American status was determined by the Adjusted National Ranking Score which combined the student-athletes' win /loss record, adjusted average win margin, adjusted average score, and the number of MVPs awarded. The Fresno State equestrian team had a solid performance at their fifth annual Best in the West Tournament held at the Fresno State Student Horse Center. The 'Dogs invited four top-ranked teams to the tournament and the arenas were filled with great competition all weekend. No. 8 Baylor won the tournament, with No. 9 Bulldogs in second place, followed by No. 6 University of South Carolina in third and No. 5 TCU in fourth. During the season, the Bulldogs went 4-6 with wins against Delaware State, Miami of Ohio, Southern Methodist University and University of Tennessee-Martin. They competed against some of the top teams in the nation, taking on Auburn, TCU, New Mexico State and Georgia. This 2010-11 season marked the first year of head coaching for the Western team's Stephanie Reeves and the Hunter Seat team's Julia Scrivani. They both are graduates from Fresno State and are alumni of the equestrian program. 2011 40 EQUESTRIAN 2012 41 SEASON REVIEW OPPONENTS
