60 // VARSITY February 6, 2014 INSIDE WOMEN'S HOCKEY No. 2 Badgers ready for battle with Buckeyes Both teams enter the weekend on hot streaks BY AJ HARRISON @BADGERWHOCKEY W ith only three regu- lar season series left, the No. 2 Badgers are heading down the home- stretch in good position, Wis- consin has lost only one of its past 22 contests. A big road challenge awaits the Badgers this weekend, as UW travels to Columbus, Ohio, to take on the surging Ohio State in a pivotal WCHA clash. Wisconsin currently sits in second in the conference standings, seven points be- hind No. 1 Minnesota, and 10 points clear of North Dakota, which sits in third. Meanwhile the Buckeyes, who sit in fifth- place, are unbeaten in their past seven games, which in- cludes a shootout win against the Golden Gophers. "Ohio State is a team that we need to bring our 'A' game for," senior goaltender Alex Rigsby said. "They will be a team that will push back. Their rink is small, so there will be a lot of one-on- one battles that we need to win." OLYMPIC HOCKEY STARTS ON SATURDAY ● After months of buildup, the 2014 Winter Olympics are finally here, as five former Badgers will hit the ice early Saturday morning with their re- spective countries. The Wisconsin quartet of Brianna Decker, Meghan Duggan, Hilary Knight and Jessie Vetter, along with the rest of the U.S. Olympic Team, will face Fin- land in a 2 a.m. (CT) game on NBCSN. Meaghan Mikkelson and Team Canada will face Switzerland in a 7 a.m. con- test Saturday, which will air on MS- NBC. The U.S. and Canada meet on Feb. 12 in a 6:30 a.m matchup.
