UNIVERSITY CLEARED FOR TAKEOFF IN NEW SKYWEST AIRLINES PARTNERSHIP Students of the CMU/WCCC pilot training program have gained access to the SkyWest Airlines Pilot Pathway Program. The partnership will provide a career pathway for students with the desire to fly for a commercial airline. Under the new partnership, CMU students in the pathway program have access to a pilot mentor, enhanced SkyWest company seniority and a guaranteed final First Officer interview. Brigitte Sundermann, WCCC vice president of community college affairs, said the partnership is just the beginning of an effort that could lead to tripling the program’s size. NEW DIRECTOR OF SPONSORED PROGRAMS Cheryl Green, PhD, is a nationally renowned figure in the fields of research and development, and research compliance issues. She worked at numerous institutions before coming to CMU and under her tenure those institutions collectively went from securing less than $5 million to more than $200 million in stable, sponsored program funding. “I opted to join CMU because I believe in the institution’s desire to compete and be successful in securing external funding — not just faculty research, but to support programs and services to first-generation populations and disadvantaged students,” said Green. “I believe my skills and experience fit the strategic goals of the university and the needs of the larger community — together we can transform the lives of the students and communities we serve.” Green has personally written and secured $80 million in public and private external funding and sponsored programs throughout her career in higher education.
