W
hen Wisconsin men's hockey coach Mike Eaves looks at Mark Zenger- le's numbers from his freshman and sophomore seasons, he sees
a player that "produces points and wants to pro- duce points and will carry a big load for us this year in that fashion.''
When Eaves looks at Zengerle's number โ the
No. 9 on the back of his UW sweater โ he sees concentric circles and a Big Red bullseye. "I think he comes in with a target on his back,'' Eaves said. That's both a compliment and challenge โ to be targeted by the opposition based on your play and potential.
"He wants to be that guy,'' Eaves said. "He has the ability to be that guy.'' Zengerle has some experience in wearing the bull's-eye.
"I had that in juniors,'' he said. "It's nothing re- ally new to me.'' Zengerle averaged 2.00 points-per- game dur-
ing the 2009-2010 season with the Salmon Arm Silverbacks in the British Columbia Hockey League. He had 33 goals and 87 assists. In collect- ing 120 points in 60 games, he shared the league's scoring title. He led the BCHL in assists two years in a row. As a UW freshman, Zengerle started his college hockey career with points in his first six games
