Lindsey joined the Paladin program following two seasons A highly regarded coach with a wealth of Southern Con- as defensive line and special teams coach at Chattanooga, his alma mater. In his short stint at UTC, the second of his coaching career, he helped mold a Mocs' defensive front into one of the best in the SoCon in 2011, evidenced by Chattanooga leading the SoCon in a number of categories, including scoring defense (19.7 ppg), total defense (305.3 ypg), passing defense (140.8 ypg), passing defense efficiency (100.1 rating), opponent third downs (15.1 avg), opponent third down percentage (33.5 per- cent), and opponent fourth down percentage (38.1 percent). Four of Lindsey's players earned All-SoCon honors a year ago, including Josh Williams, a first team selection, and three newcomers — Josh Freeman, Keyon Reed, and Davis Tull — were named to the SoCon All-Freshman Team. Lindsey served as an assistant coach at Tennessee-Martin Johnston was drafted by the Kansas City Chiefs in 2008. Lindsey went to Gardner-Webb from Chattanooga, where he coached UTC linebacker Josh Cain to second team All-Amer- ican honors in 2002. He spent the 2000 & '01 seasons as a re- stricted earnings coach on the Mocs' staff. The young coach played linebacker at Chattanooga and Assistant Coaches served as a team captain in 1999, his senior season. He was a three-time member of the Dean's List and 1999 recipient of UTC's Marco Sheppard Mr. Hustle Award. Lindsey, who graduated from Chattanooga in 2001 with a degree in sports administration, has served NFL Minority Coaching Internships with the Denver Broncos (2010), Detroit Lions (2008), and Cleveland Browns (2006) He has a daughter, Kiara. THE JIMMY LINDSEY FILE in 2009 after working two seasons (2007-08) as defensive ends coach at Miami (Ohio), where in his first year he helped the Redhawks pace the Mid-America Conference in six statistical categories. He also served as co-special teams coordinator in charge of kickoff and punt return units. Before Miami he spent four years at Gardner-Webb (2003- 06) coaching the defensive line and linebackers while also serving as recruiting coordinator. Harold Wells, one of Lindsey's products, was named 2004 I-AA (FCS) Football Gazette Na- tional Defensive Lineman of the Year, and defensive end Brian NORVAL MCKENZIE Running Backs/Recruiting Coordinator head coach Bruce Fowler prior to his return to Greenville last year, Norval McKenzie in now in his second year as the Paladins' running backs coach and recruiting coordinator. Last fall McKenzie directed the work of All-Southern Confer- A young coach who boasted proven experience with Furman ence running back Jerodis Williams, who rushed for 1,055 yards and nine touchdowns to become the first Paladin 1,000-yard rusher since 2003. Williams capped his 2011 campaign with a 133-yard, two-touchdown performance against Florida. A Powder Springs, Ga., native and former football standout at McEachern (Ga.) High School, McKenzie was a four-year football letterman for Vanderbilt (2001-04), where he rushed for 1,411 yards in a career that included three seasons of play under Fowler and new Paladin offensive coordinator Jimmy Kiser. He battled back from a serious leg injury his sophomore year to lead Vanderbilt in rushing in both 2003 & '04. McKenzie was a rare triple major, earning an undergraduate (Ga.) High School, working two seasons there before returning to Vanderbilt as a graduate assistant coach for the 2008 and '09 campaigns under head coach Bobby Johnson. In 2008 he helped Vanderbilt post its first winning season coordinator while also helping with player development and coordinating the Gridiron Club for former Commodore letterwin- ners. In 2010 he assumed the duties of assistant recruiting Vanderbilt in 2010. He has a daughter, Anaya.
