Last fall he directed a Paladin offensive front that pro- duced a pair of All-Southern Conference performers in tackles Dakota Dozier and Ryan Lee, a free agent signee of the Pitts- burgh Steelers. The duo helped clear the way for Jerodis Wil- liams' 1,055-yard rushing campaign, the first by a Paladin since 2003. at Jacksonville State, where he coached a pair of All-Americans and seven All-Ohio Valley Conference performers who played a key role in Jacksonville State posting a 25-9 overall record and 18-5 OVC mark. In 2010 JSU went 9-3 and earned its first NCAA Football Prior to joining the Paladin program, he spent three years Championship Subdivision (FCS) playoff berth since 2004. In- cluded in Jacksonville State's season was the program's first win over a SEC opponent — a 49-48 triumph over Mississippi. Prior to his stint at Jacksonville State, he coached the of- fensive line coach at East Gadsden (Fla.) High School in 2007. Smouse spent two seasons (2005-06) at East Mississippi Community College (EMCC). In his second season there he directed an offensive line that paved the way for the nation's top junior college rusher, LeGarrette Blount, who later signed with Oregon. Four of Smouse's offensive linemen earned post- season honors at EMCC, and nine players signed scholarships with four-year institutions. He coached for two seasons at LSU (2003-04), where he served as a graduate assistant working primarily with the of- 38 Scott Smouse, a Greensboro, N.C., native, is in his second fensive linemen, and was part of the Tigers' 2003 national championship team and 2004 Capital One Bowl. Before going to LSU he worked two seasons at Newberry (S.C.) College (2001-02) as offensive line and tight ends coach. Smouse earned a degree in history and secondary educa- tion in 2000 from Appalachian State. As a student assistant coach with the offensive line, he helped guide the Mountain- eers to Southern Conference titles in both 1995 & '99. He spent one season as a defensive graduate assistant at Duke (2000) before accepting his first full-time coaching job at Newberry.
