EIGHTH YEAR HEAD COACH LISA OYEN Now in her eighth season at Arizona, Lisa Oyen returns for her second season as head coach for the Wildcats. Oyen was hired in November 2009 after finishing the season as interim head coach along with assistant John Galas. In 2005, Oyen was part of a coaching staff that led the Wildcats to an 11-8-3 record and a Sweet 16 berth in the NCAA tournament. In 2004, Coach Oyen was part of the U of A history as she not only helped lead the Wildcats to the program's first winning season; she was on staff for the first Pacific-10 Conference Championship as well. She followed up that first with another one: the `Cats earned their first berth in the Sweet 16 during the 2005 season. Before accepting the job at Arizona, Oyen spent two seasons at Washington State where she helped former Wildcat head coach Dan Tobias lead the Cougars to an NCAA Tournament appearance. Prior to her tenure at WSU, Oyen was head coach of the U-17 Miami Premier Soccer club from 1999-2000, after she spent the fall of 1998 as an assistant coach at her alma mater, the University of Montana. Oyen also spent three months coaching for the Manchester United Soccer Schools and the Bobby Charlton Sports Schools, where she directed and supervised soccer students around the world. Upon returning from the United Kingdom, Oyen moved to Seattle, where she worked for the Seattle Sounders as the special projects manager and the women's sales and marketing manager. Oyen has also had plenty of experience as a player. She spent two years playing for the Miami Gliders of the United Soccer Leagues (USL) W-2 Southeastern Division. In 1998, the Gliders placed fourth at the national tournament, and in 1999, Oyen was named a team captain. A four-year letterwinner at Montana, Oyen was a starting defender for the Grizzlies. She was a team captain in 1994 and 1997 and was chosen the Most Valuable Player for both her team and the Big Sky Conference in the fall of 1997 after leading Montana to the conference championship. She also earned all-West Region honors from both the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) and SoccerBuzz Magazine in 1997. Oyen has taken on other coaching duties during her time at Arizona. In addition to being the Camp Director for DTSC (Dan Tobias Soccer Camps), she is also on the coaching staff for the Arizona Rush Soccer Club. She has also been part of the Arizona Olympic Development Program as both a head coach and assistant coach for various age groups.
