DANIELLE SUNDERHAUS SECOND YEAR In the spring of 2010, the soccer program announced the hiring of Danielle Sunderhaus as an assistant coach for the Wildcats. Sunderhaus, a member of two national championship teams as a player at North Carolina, returns for her second season to join head Coach Lisa Oyen to complete the coaching staff. "We are extremely excited about the addition of Danielle to our staff and program," said Oyen. "She is a fantastic role model and mentor for our student-athletes. She has been guided by the top coaches in the women's game and exposed to a variety of styles of play, so her knowledge of women's soccer is incredibly impressive." At Arizona, Sunderhaus will assist in all aspects of daily training and game preparation with the team, coordinate travel plans, assist in all aspects of recruiting, oversee equipment and handle other administrative duties. As a player at North Carolina, Sunderhaus started all 101 games that she played in from 1998-2001 and was a key contributor on the 1999 and 2000 national championship teams. She scored five goals and tallied 18 assists in her four-year career. "Danielle has found success at all levels of soccer from her experience as a youth player, to winning national championships at the collegiate level, to her national team involvement and her professional soccer career," Oyen added. "She has proven that she knows what it takes to succeed and we are thrilled about the knowledge and passion for the game that Danielle will bring to our program." Sunderhaus was in the U.S. women's soccer national team system from 1996-2000. She earned two caps, including her first at age 16. Following her playing days, Sunderhaus served as a volunteer assistant coach at her alma mater, with the Tar Heels soccer program and later was a strength and conditioning coach intern at UNC from 2003-2004. In addition to her collegiate playing and coaching experience, Sunderhaus has long track record of coaching and developing soccer players at the club and youth levels. She also played professionally for two seasons in the Women's United Soccer Association from 2002-03. In recent years, Sunderhaus has worked as a personal trainer at Treyburn Country Club in Durham, N.C., and for Fleet Feet Inc. (2004-2007) as a franchise development coordinator and vendor program manager. Sunderhaus, an ACE certified personal trainer, received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Exercise Sports Science with a minor in coaching. She is married and has twins.
