2011 Furman Paladins Assistant Coaches Ricky Logo, Norval McKenzie RICKY LOGO Defensive Line Ricky Logo assumed the duties of defensive line coach in February after working the last four seasons in the same capac- ity at Vanderbilt. In addition, he served as the Commodores' co-special teams coordinator the last two years. He helps form a solid contingent of former Vanderbilt coaches who have signed on at Furman, including head coach Bruce Fowler, running backs coach Norval McKenzie, and safe- ties coach Mark Moehring, as well as strength and conditioning coach John Sisk. During his tenure at Vanderbilt he coached several outstand- ing performers, including NFL free agent signees Curtis Gatewood and Theo Horrocks, and played a key role in helping the school notch its first winning season since 1982 with a 16-14 victory over Boston College in the 2008 Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl. Prior to joining the Commodores' staff, he worked five years at Troy — first as defensive line coach for three seasons (2002-04) and the final two campaigns (2005-06) as co-defen- sive coordinator. While there he mentored a pair of future NFL standouts, Osi Umenyiora of the New York Giants and Demarcus Ware of the Dallas Cowboys. He joined Troy following one year at Southern Conference foe Western Carolina, where he served as assistant head coach and defensive line coach. From 1995-01 he was a member of the coaching staff at Chattanooga, working as defensive line coach and one season as the Mocs' defensive coordinator A native of Santa Ana, Calif., Logo was an outstanding NORVAL MCKENZIE Running Backs/Recruiting Coordinator A young coach who already boasts proven experience work- ing with new Furman head coach Bruce Fowler, Norval McKenzie joined the Paladin staff in February as running backs coach and recruiting coordinator. A Tuskeegee, Ala., native and former football standout at McEachern (Ga.) High School, McKenzie was a four-year football letterman for Vanderbilt (2001-04), where he rushed for 1,411 yards in a career that included three seasons of play under Fowler and new Paladin offensive coordinator Jimmy Kiser. He battled back from a serious leg injury his sophomore year to lead Vanderbilt in rushing in both 2003 & '04. McKenzie was a rare triple major, earning an undergraduate degree in secondary education, political science, and American history in 2005. Following graduation he began his coaching career at Hiram (Ga.) High School, working two seasons there before returning to Vanderbilt as a graduate assistant coach for the 2008 and '09 campaigns under head coach Bobby Johnson. In 2008 he helped Vanderbilt post its first winning season (7-6) since 1982 and a 16-14 victory over Boston College in the Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl — the program's first bowl victory since 1955. In 2010 he assumed the duties of assistant recruiting coordinator while also helping with player development and coordinating the Gridiron Club for former Commodore letterwin- ners. He has a daughter, Anaya, 10. defensive tackle at North Carolina State, where he played for former Furman head coach Dick Sheridan from 1989-92. During his four seasons there, the Wolfpack posted a 32- 16-1 record and made bowl appearances every year. He was a team captain his senior year and earned All-Atlantic Coast Conference honors in 1992. That same season, he was named third-team All-America and played in the postseason Japan and Hula bowls. Following graduation in 1992 with a B.A. in sociology, Logo signed a contract with Detroit but suffered a career-end- ing injury as a rookie. He is a product of Spencer (Ga.)
