2011 Furman Paladins Academic Progress Report, Graduation Success Rate Data FURMAN ATHLETICS RANKS THIRD NATIONALLY IN GRADUATION SUCCESS RATE GREENVILLE, S.C. (Nov. 1, 2010) -- Furman University's intercollegiate athletics pro- gram boasts the nation's third highest graduation rate among NCAA Division I institu- tions, according to rankings compiled by USA Today. Furman's 97 percent NCAA Graduation Success Rate (GSR) trailed only Colgate (100%) and Notre Dame (99%) and was tied with Duke, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Loyola (Md.), and Northwestern among the nation's 327 Division I programs. Thirteen of Furman's 18 sports achieved 100 percent GSR scores, meaning all student-athletes who enrolled in 2003 in those particular sports went on to gradu- ate from the university or another institution within the allowed six-year time frame. Paladin football and baseball tallied marks of 97 and 96 percent, respectively, to lead the Southern Conference and rank among the 10 nationally in their sport. Furman sports achieving perfect GSR scores of 100 include men's golf, women's golf, men's tennis, women's tennis, women's soccer, men's track & field, women's track & field, women's basketball, and women's volleyball. Men's and women's track & field encompasses the sports of cross country, indoor track & field, and outdoor track & field. (May 26, 2010) -- The Football Championship Subdivision Athlet- ics Directors Association (FCS ADA) recognized Furman University's football program as the inaugural recipient of the Academic Progress Rate (APR) Award for the Southern Conference. The APR Award recognized one institution in each of the 14 FCS conferences that has the highest Academic Progress Rate (APR) score over the NCAA's most-recent, four-year time frame. Furman's mutlti-year APR of 977 was 43 points higher than the SoCon aver- age of 934. "The FCS ADA continues to look for ways to recognize itsinstitutions and support our mission of graduating student-athletes," said FCS ADA President PeterFields, athletics director at Montana State University. "Using the APR as a measuring tool is another way for us to honor deserving institutions." The National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) member colleges and universi- ties adopted a comprehensive academic reform package designed to improve the aca- demic success and graduation of allstudent-athletes.
