2011 Furman Paladins Assistant Coaches Antonio Goss, Jimmy Kiser ANTONIO GOSS Cornerbacks/Special Teams Coordinator Antonio Goss, who spent seven years in the National Football League with the San Francisco 49ers and St. Louis Rams, and who who most recently served as safeties coach and special teams coordinator at Louisville, joined the Furman program in February as cornerbacks coach and special teams coordinator. Prior to his stint at Louisville, Goss directed the cornerbacks and special teams at Middle Tennessee State (2006-08) and served as both linebackers and cornerbacks coach at the University of Buffalo for five seasons (2001-05). He began his collegiate coaching career as linebackers and special teams coach at North Carolina Central (2000) after working three years as a prep coach in the Durham/Chapel Hill, N.C. area. A 1989 graduate of North Carolina with a degree in sociology, Goss starred as a linebacker and safety with the Tar Heels under coach Dick Crum and current University of Texas head coach Mack Brown. Following his Tar Heel career, he was drafted in the 12th round by San Francisco and was a member of two Super Bowl championship teams (XXIV and XXIX), seeing action as a backup linebacker and captain of special teams. He was chosen by his teammates to represent the 49ers as special teams captain along with defensive captain Tim McDonald and Hall of Fame receiver Jerry Rice in Super Bowl XXIX. He played the 1996 season with the St. Louis Rams, where he started five games and was a key special teams performer. After concluding his NFL career he took his first coaching assignment as linebacker and strength and conditioning coach at East Chapel Hill (N.C.) High School, where he served for two seasons. In 2005 Goss entered the NFL internship program with the Buffalo Bills under head coach Mike Malarkey. He was tutored by Bills defensive coordinator Jerry Gray and linebacker coach Don Blackmon, while also assisting special teams coach Bobby April. He was a member of the Detroit Lions coaching staff in 2004. A native of Randleman, N.C., and product of Randelman High School, he and his wife, Marvine, have two daughters, Antoinette and Alexandria. JIMMY KISER Offensive Coordinator/Wide Receivers/Tight Ends Jimmy Kiser, a 1979 Furman graduate and Paladin football standout, returned to his alma mater in February following a nine-year tenure at Vanderbilt, where he worked alongside new Furman head coach Bruce Fowler and assistants Ricky Logo, Norval McKenzie, and Mark Moehring, as well as new Paladin strength and conditioning coach John Sisk. In addition to serving as offensive coordinator, he directs Fur- man's wide receivers and tight ends. Kiser coached Vanderbilt's quarterbacks and also served as of- fensive coordinator for one season and co-passing game coordinator for three campaigns. He mentored quarterback Jay Cutler, the 2005 Southeastern Conference Offensive Player of the Year who rewrote the Commodore record books on the way to becoming one of the top quarterbacks in SEC history and a first round, 11th overall pick in the 2006 NFL Draft. In 2008 he helped Vanderbilt post its first winning season since 1982 and a victory over Boston College in the Gaylord Hotels Music City Bowl — the program's first bowl victory since 1955. Kiser began his coaching career as a graduate assistant at Furman under Dick Sheridan. After coaching three years (1981-84) at Dunwoody (Ga.) H.S., he accepted his first collegiate full-time assignment at Lenoir-Rhyne (N.C.) College as offensive coordinator. In 1986 he joined Sheridan's staff at N.C. State as receivers coach (1986-95) and later served as quarterbacks/receivers coach (1996) and offensive coordinator (1997-99) under Mike O'Cain. In 1997 N.C. State led the Atlantic Coast Conference in rushing offense and finished second in total offense, then topped the league in total offense the following year. During his stint as offensive coordinator, 38 N.C. State's offense featured future NFL star Torry Holt. In 2000, Kiser moved to Memphis, where he coached quarter- backs, and in 2001 he accepted the position of offensive coordinator/ quarterbacks coach at Richmond. A graduate of Northwestern (S.C.) High School, Kiser was a wide receiver and special teams standout at Furman, earning team MVP and second team All-SoCon honors after recording 39 receptions on the Paladins' 1978 SoCon title team. He also topped the squad in punt returns three times and twice paced Furman in kickoff returns. He graduated cum laude with a B.A. in economics and busi- ness administration and in 1982 added a master's in business from Clemson.
