ter," he said, "and he followed back. He's a cool guy."
Cooler than Hudson may have anticipated. "I
didn't realize he's such a really genuine person,"
he said. "I kind of suspected it because that's who
we recruit here. That's what I noticed about Coach
(Gary) Andersen and Wisconsin in general. Every-
body on this team is a gen-
uinely nice person."
Hudson added that
the four early enrollees
have "definitely bonded
already." Besides Gillins'
"cool" personality, he not-
ed, "Jaden is a great guy,
he's a teddy bear. At first,
Michael is really quiet. But
when you get to know him,
the kid is hilarious. He's one of those unintention-
ally funny people."
Hudson has no trouble laughing at himself, either.
"On my first day of school here," he said, "I was in
a lecture hall with about 300 people and my chair
broke. It wasn't a weight issue because obviously
I've got to put on weight (He's 180).
"But it was embarrassing. I also thought it was
hilarious. I took a picture and saved it ― it's some-
thing I can show my kids. A lot of embarrassing stuff
that happens is a rite of passage."
Andersen offered this overview of each of his four
early enrollees:
On Deiter: "This is a very interesting scenario.
He's going to play center
this spring with Dan Voltz
being out with back sur-
gery and Dallas Lewallen
being out with knee sur-
gery. He might find himself
as the starting center at
the University of Wiscon-
sin instead of going to high
school prom."
On Gault: "Jaden had a
little bit of work done with his knee, a scope, so he's
slowed down right now. We'll see how that develops
and how much he can get involved in spring ball.
That put the brakes on him for now, but I still expect
him to be in a position to get some good reps."
On Hudson: "His athleticism shows up in the
workouts. He's exactly what we thought he was. He
has gained 10 pounds in two weeks and I expect
HIGHLIGHTS: CLASS OF 2014
Regarding the early enrollee process,
Andersen said, "Sometimes I'm in favor of
it, sometimes I'm not. I was definitely
in favor of these four. I'm glad they're
with us. They're good kids and I think
it's a good thing to have all four of
them here (this semester).
