Jan. 1 announcement expected to add to UW
Olympic legacy
hen the NHL returns
to the outdoor stage
on Wednesday, Jan.
1, at Michigan Stadium in Ann
Arbor, Mich., USA Hockey will
announce its rosters for the
men's and women's Olympic teams. Those teams will
compete at the 2014 Olympic
Winter Games that take place
in Sochi, Russia, beginning on
Feb. 7.
The Badgers had three representatives skate for Team
USA in Vancouver in 2010,
including Minnesota Wild defenseman Ryan Suter, San Jose
Sharks' forward Joe Pavelski
and now-retired defenseman
Brian Rafalski. Expect to see

Suter and Pavelski return to
the lineup and in leadership
roles. Suter was team assistant
captain along with Rafalski in
2010, and Pavelski will return as an experienced silver
medalist. New York Rangers'
defenseman Ryan McDonagh
is expected to join the others
on the team, with a few other
Wisconsin alumni in the mix.

Derek Stepan, who has experience as Team USA captain as
leader for the Americans' 2010

U.S. national team, including goaltender
Jesse Vetter and forwards Hilary Knight,
Brianna Decker, Anne Pankowski and
Meghan Duggan. Duggan has served as
captain during the team's pre-Olympic
centralization.
