ontee Ball was well aware of
the prestige of the Doak Walker
Award.
But the Wisconsin tailback
had no idea how much weight it
would carry for the winner.
How about 50 pounds?
One 25-pound weight vest + one 25-pound
weight vest = the Doak Walker Award winner.
While Ball was the recipient, the math belonged
to UW strength coach Ben Herbert.

and on his toes,������ Herbert said.
In this case, the players were doing combo reps
with a Swiss bar during a recent workout.
���We needed vest weight for the inverted row,������
Herbert recounted. ���So I said, ���Everybody get a
vest on ��� or two.���������
The room snapped to attention.
���Running backs you don���t have a choice,������ he commanded. ���Make sure you put on two.���������
Herbert then pointed to Ball.
���Hey, Montee,������ he yelled out, ���because of the
Doak award, you can put on three vests.������
