2016 PAC-12 VOLLEYBALL // PREVIEW 10 PRESEASON NOTEBOOK Pac-12 volleyball continues to recruit marquee student-athletes. Seven Pac-12 institutions landed at least one Volleyball Magazine FAB 50 recruit. Here's a list of those freshmen who should make significant contributions to Pac-12 volleyball: VOLLEYBALL MAGAZINE Imani Davis, MB, USC Audriana Fitzmorris, MB, Stanford Madeline Gates, MB, UCLA Jenna Gray, S, Stanford Morgan Hentz, OH/L, Stanford Willow Johnson, OPP, Oregon Michaela Keefe, OH, Stanford Khalia Lanier, OH, USC Kylie Miller, S, UCLA Kathryn Plummer, OPP, Stanford Jolie Rasmussen, OH, Oregon Ronika Stone, MB, Oregon Torrey Van Winden, MB/OPP, UCLA That's a total of 13 FAB 50 recruits, which breaks down to 26 percent of the list. Here's the list by conference: Big Ten ..................................... 16 Pac-12 ................................. 13 SEC ............................................ 8 Big 12......................................... 5 ACC ............................................ 4 Mountain West ............................ 3 Big East ...................................... 1 Kyra Holt, Washington State the setter rotation will be important to the succes of the team, especially early on. WASHINGTON The co-Pac-12 Champion Huskies also come with a host of unknowns after losing six seniors from last year's title-grabbing team. But Washington will not be short on experience as head coach Keegan Cook welcomes back seven returnning letterwinners, all of which played significant roles in last year's title run. Among those are Preseason All-Pac-12 honorees Tia Scambray and Crissy Jones. The duo represent two of the team's top-four scorers from last season and will likely be looked to take on the bulk of the offensive load. Additionally, Courtney Schwan, who missed some time last season because of injury, had the best kills average on the team. She returns this season, as well, adding depth to a solid outside hitting core. Added to the veteran mix is an incoming class of six talented players. Washington, who was picked third in the preseason coaches poll, has not finished lower than fourth except for once in the last 12 years. With the group of Huskies Cook has this season, it does not appear that trend will end soon. WASHINGTON STATE The 2016 campaign is shaping up to be one of the best in Washington State history. The Cougs have had a core of players that has contributed significant playing time for the last few years, relying on last year's freshman class, in particular. That class was one of the more talented groups of Jen Greeny's tenure, ranking 21st in the recruiting polls. With that class having a year of experience under its belt, along with six juniors and seniors on the roster, WSU looks like it is ready to have a breakout season. The Cougars have managed to find success in the opening weeks of the season, but has struggled to carry that momentum into Conference play. But with Preseason All-Pac-12 pick Kyra Holt entering her final campaign, she could project a sense of urgency needed for WSU to make some headlines. Holt has been an outstandings force for the Cougars Adora Anae, Utah Brittany Abercrombie, USC AVCA PRESEASON RANKING 1. Nebraska (60) 1594 2. Texas (3) 1517 3. Minnesota 1368 4. Wisconsin 1255 5. So much so, she enters the 2016 esason as the Conference's active kills leader. Greeny, and the rest of the Cougs, will have to step up to make this a memorable one for the program.
