BILLY BERTHA »» MEN'S TENNIS Badgering... A junior captain from Whitefish Bay, Wis., Bertha was undefeated in his last four matches of the regular season and has the Badgers playing their best tennis of the season. Paired with sophomore Fredrik Ask, the two are currently ranked No. 34 in the ITA doubles rankings and are 4-1 against ranked opponents. What is it like playing at Nielsen Tennis Stadium, especially since you played the high school state tournament in the same venue? "It brings back good memories of my high school days and it is special to play for my home state school at a high level at the same place where I enjoyed so much success in high school." What can you attribute to your strong play down the stretch of the season? "I've gotten my body healthy for the home stretch, which has had a big impact on my play. I'm now going out on the court with more confidence in my ability to play longer points and hang around in matches which has helped my all-around game." What are you looking forward to about the conference tournament? "Hopefully getting another solid win over Nebraska and then taking on Ohio State for a chance at beating one of the best teams in the country." What was your biggest individual win of the season? "Beating Georgia Tech's doubles team, who were ranked No. 2 in the country." What racquet and strings do you use? "Babolat strings and racquets, the same brand I have used all my life." 20 » VARSITY APRIL 26, 2012
