DEEP THOUGHTS
«« "He's really starting to look like the whole package physically," Bostad said of Peter Konz. "I'm really excited to see him play."
the guy that makes the O-line go over and get a drink of water because they have this mentality that they've got to keep repping."
That's part of the details.
"If you let them get away with things, that enables them," Bostad said. "It's better to create as much pressure as you can, to be on them as much as you and to create stress when you can." That prepares them for the rigors of a
game, especially the fourth quarter, he implied.
Not that Bostad is all business all the
time. Want to see him smile? Ask him about Gabe Carimi, John Moffitt and Billy Nagy; all of whom have started preseason games in the NFL. "It's not exactly a touchy-feeling en- vironment around here," Bostad said. "But I'm very proud of those guys. It's hard to put into words. But I have a smile on my face when I hear about them."
Don't mistake that humanity for mel-
lowing. Bostad doesn't think the UW offensive line is where it needs to be go- ing into the 2011 opener against UNLV at Camp Randall Stadium.
"I don't see the crispness that we need to have overall," he said. There has been a lack of continuity in training camp because of injuries. "What's different from before?" Bos- tad posed rhetorically. In previous years, the Badgers were able to overcome the early disruptions.
POSITION BY POSITION
» Quarterbacks ▪ Russell Wilson has shown an uncanny ability to slide the pocket to avoid the pass rush. Although he's listed at 5-11, he has a good feel for finding passing lines. He had very few passes batted down in camp.
▪ Joe Brennan »» has looked much more comfortable managing the huddle over the last 10 days.
▪ Joel Stave continues to display a nice touch on his passes with a free and easy throwing motion.
» Running Backs ▪ Montee Ball has shown more explosiveness through the hole due in part to his huge weight loss.
▪ James White has excelled in practice with his cutback abil- ity.
▪ Jeff Lewis »» has some burst once he hits the second level of the defense.
▪ It's just a matter of time before Melvin Gordon adapts to his new surroundings and explodes.
▪ Fullback Bradie Ewing will surprise people with his receiving skills.
