He also set a new UNC single-season record for passing yards against the Wolfpack. • Yates had six 300-yard passing games in his career, including four in 2010. He threw for 200 or more yards 23 times. • Yates scored seven rushing touchdowns in his career. He had a career-long 24-yard run vs. Virginia Tech. • Yates had nine completions of 50+ yards in 2010, with four of those hookups going for touchdowns. Yates completed a 97-yard TD pass to Jheranie Boyd against LSU, an 81-yarder to Jones against Vir- ginia and a 52-yarder to Erik Highsmith against Georgia Tech. Yates has completed 21 career passes of 50 yards or more, with 13 of those going for touchdowns. Seven Tar Heels Named All-ACC • Seven Carolina football players were named to the 2010 All-Atlantic Coast Conference teams as selected by the Atlantic Coast Sports Media Association (ACSMA). Defensive tackle Quinton Coples earned first-team honors, while offensive guard Jonathan Cooper and linebacker Bruce Carter were named to the second team. Wide receiver Dwight Jones, tailback Johnny White, place-kicker Casey Barth and quarterback T.J. Yates were named honorable mention. • A native of Kinston, N.C., Coples was the only defensive tackle in the league in the top 10 in both sacks (10.0) and tackles for losses (15.5). He also ranked fourth on the team with 59 tackles and has 12 quarterback pressures. • Carter, a senior from Havelock, N.C., was named one of five finalists for the Butkus Award, which is presented to the nation’s top linebacker. This season he posted 57 tackles, blocked a punt and picked off a pass. Cooper, a sophomore from Wilmington, N.C., was Carolina’s top performing offensive line- man. He started every game and graded out at 83 percent. • Yates ranked second in the league in all three major quarterbacking categories, including passing yards, pass efficiency and total offense. The Marietta, Ga., native also led the league with a 66.8 percent completion rate. • Jones, a native of Burlington, N.C., ranked fourth in the league with 72.8 yards per game. After posting 104 yards in the first five games of the season, he finished with 946 yards on 62 catches. • Despite missing the last three regular season games with an fractured clavicle, White led the Tar Heels with 720 yards rushing, an average of 80.0 per game. White, a native of Asheville, N.C., averaged 112.0 all-purpose yards, which ranked fifth in the ACC. • Barth, a former teammate of Cooper at Wilmington’s Hoggard High School, converted 19 of 22 field goal attempts this season, including a long of 49. He made all 38 extra point attempts this season and is the current school record-holder with 71 consecutive extra points made. 40-Start Club • Carolina had four different players start 40-or-more games, led by safety Deunta Williams (47). Quarterback T.J. Yates (45), cornerback Kendric Burney (43) and linebacker Bruce Carter (43). Wil- liams and Burney entered the 2010 season with 38 consecutive starts. Road Success • UNC lost 20 consecutive road games outside the state of North Carolina from 2002 to 2007. Since winning at Rutgers in 2008, Carolina is now 9-5 in games outside the state, including wins over Miami, Connecticut, Virginia Tech, Boston College, Rutgers, Virginia, Florida State and Tennessee. • Carolina was 4-1 in road games this year, including wins over Rutgers, Virginia, Florida State and Duke.
