THIS WEEK IN BADGER HISTORY
{
GO LOW
MAY 15, 1994: The Wisconsin men's golf team won its second consecutive Big Ten
championship behind individual medalist Ben Walter in Ann Arbor, Mich. His 72-
hole score of 247 broke the Badgers' school record and gave Walter the second-best
winning total in conference meet history. He also set Big Ten records for low 36- and
54-hole scores.
FLY 2K
MAY 20, 2000: Michael Bennett blazed to a pair of school records in the sprints for
the Wisconsin men's track team, running a time of 10.18 seconds in the 100 meters
and combining with Len Herring, T.J. Nelson and B.J. Tucker to clock in at 39.64 in
the 4x100 relay at the 2000 Big Ten Outdoor Championships. UW went on to win the
team title with 155 points, the second-highest total in league history.
ON THE MARK
MAY 23, 2002: UW Director of Athletics Pat Richter announced the hiring of Mark
Johnson as head coach of the Badgers' women's hockey program. Johnson, who left
UW as the school's all-time leading goal scorer and won gold with the U.S. at the
1980 Olympics, spent 15 years in the NHL and six seasons an assistant coach with
the UW men's program before taking the reins of the women's team. Johnson has
led the Badgers to four NCAA championships in his 11 seasons at the helm.
NOT GOING QUIETLY
MAY 17, 2013: Making their fourth appearance in the NCAA tournament – and first since
2005 – the Wisconsin softball team rallied to defeat BYU and North Carolina after falling to
the Tar Heels in its opening game, advancing to the championship game of the Eugene Re-
