WARREN HERRING
FOOTBALL
F
ocus, persistence and work have served War-
ren Herring well as a student-athlete at Wis-
consin. Named Defensive Scout Team Player
of the Year by coaches and peers during his redshirt
freshman season with the UW football team, Herring
has always been one dedicated to utilizing his time
to do all he can for teammates and self. Last season a
junior, that work paid off in his first career start and
career highs in tackles for loss (4.5) and sacks (2.5).
Having adjusted to a new 3-4 defensive scheme
and transitioned from defensive tackle to nose guard,
Herring figures to be a factor in his fifth and final
season for the Badgers as a starter on the defensive
line. His short-term goals are simple: get ready for
his fifth and final season.
Yet ask the Fairview Heights, Illinois, native to re-
call his favorite memory from his time at UW and it
comes back to the people he's spent the time with
more than the personal achievements or moments
he's experienced from his work.
"Making friends with a lot of different student-ath-
letes," Herring said. "It's a very close-knit group here
within the athletic department. I'm making lifelong
relationships and friends."
In the short term, Herring plans to work toward
an opportunity to play in the NFL. Ready to gradu-
ate with a degree in consumer affairs this weekend,
he also plans to further his education next season by
pursuing a graduate degree in educational leader-
ship and policy analysis while finishing his football
career with the Badgers.
Herring has also already lined up an internship in
efforts to set himself up with the experience to one
day become a financial advisor.
