"Jumping into the Big Ten Championships it's important that they come off a strong competition and feel good about their standing," Carter said. "If they do that, the result against Tennessee could be quite good. We had some crossover racing with them at Clemson and it has all the makings of some really tight racing. Tennessee is a strong program, so if we can hang with them or even get out in front of them; it can put our team in a great frame of mind heading into the Big Ten Champi- onships. "It's important that they have a strong performance independent of Tennessee. Each of our crews has had strong outings and each of our crews have had lackluster outings. ere's no rhythm to it, some- times they hit and sometimes they miss." e Hawkeyes started the season off right, defeat- ing then-ranked No. 20 Duke in 2-of-3 NCAA events and narrowly missing wins over then- ranked No. 18 Clemson. e 2V4+ — comprised of junior Rachel Crosley, freshman Kasia Gniatc- zyk, freshman Bec Clayton, sophomore Skylar McSorley, and sophomore coxswain Rachel Cham- bers — was named Big Ten Boat of the Week aer finishing first by nearly 12 seconds.
