The on-field relationship is a little bit different for
Ethan Hemer, 22, a fifth-year defensive tackle, and
Ben Hemer, 19, a first-year offensive tackle. They've
been banging heads during practice.
"We do it every day in scouts, and it was very
strange at first but now
I've gotten used to it,"
Ethan said. "Everything
in youth sports never
matched up where we
played together.
"This is the first time
we've actually been on the
same team. So, at first, it
was a little weird to think,
'I've got to crush this guy
on the football field.' But now we make each other
better.
"I've been helping Ben with his technique stuff,
and he gives as good of a look as he can on the scout
team. We both benefit from that."
Overhearing the conversation, Ben kidded, "I'm
used to beating up on him anyway."
Ethan Hemer is 6-6, 286. Ben Hemer is 6-4, 274.
"It was strange at first," Ben said about the oneon-one battles with his older brother. "Throughout
the weeks it got more and more comfortable. I just
treat him like any other player."
The Hemers are from
Medford, Wis., which is
about 190 miles from
Madison.
"I think it's cool just
having someone from the
family here," Ethan said.
"As close as we are, it's
great that we're in the
same area and I can call
him up if I need anything
and vice versa."
That's why it's such a Brotherhood at Wisconsin.
"At the end of the day," said Derek Watt, speaking
for his family and the Badgers family, "we all love
each other and we kind of lean on each other and
rely on each other to get through situations."
"AT THE END OF THE DAY," SAID DEREK
WATT, SPEAKING FOR HIS FAMILY AND THE
BADGERS FAMILY, "WE ALL LOVE EACH
OTHER AND WE KIND OF LEAN ON EACH
OTHER AND RELY ON EACH OTHER TO
GET THROUGH SITUATIONS."
"I've been helping Ben with his technique stuff, and
he gives as good of a look as he can on the scout
team," Ethan said. "We both benefit from that."
