Finishing touch: UW looks
to end 2013 on high note
Freshman emerging as top defender in Big Ten
t isn't about how you start,
it's about how you finish.
This phrase could not apply
more to the Wisconsin women's soccer team as it enters
the final stages of the 2013
regular season.
After beginning the year
with a four-match unbeaten
streak, which included four
consecutive road games, UW

coach Paula Wilkins imagined
would be the catalyst to help
the program take the next step.
Now as the Badgers prepare
for their final two home games
of the season, the focus shifts
to finishing strong and staying
confident.
"Our mentality has been
great, but the youth on this
team has to be able to realize
big moments and take advan-
tage of them," Wilkins said. "If we can all
be on the same page and not let one play
or sequence take us out of our game then
we will be fine."
One of those moments came during
UW's 2-1 win over Iowa on Sunday, when
freshman standout Rose Lavelle redirected a ball from Kinley McNicoll that
beat the Hawkeyes' keeper and secured
a much-needed win for the Badgers.
Now, Wisconsin will look to use that
momentum to end the regular season
with the same confidence and intensity
that it started it with.
"We're a little banged up but the good
thing is I think we know what it takes to
win," Wilkins added. "That confidence
will make this team dangerous in the
postseason."
REIGN OF ROSE
● Along with being regarded as one of
the Big Ten's most electrifying freshmen, Rose Lavelle has also caught the
eye of the rest of the soccer community. Top Drawer Soccer recently released its list of the country's top 100
freshmen, with the Ohio native coming in at No. 6.
MCNICOLL'S MAGIC
● Aside from leading the Badgers and
the conference in assists (12), Kinley
McNicoll also owns the Badgers' team
lead in points (24).
