THIS WEEK IN BADGER HISTORY FOOTBALL SEASON OPENERS WATCH: WILSON RUNS WILD AGAINST UNLV 'HELLO RUSSELL WILSON!' SEPTEMBER 1, 2011: Two touchdown passes and a 46-yard TD run introduced Wisconsin fans to Russell Wilson as the Badgers defeated UNLV 51-17 in their prime time season-opener. Wilson finished the game going 10-for-13 for 255 passing yards, while Montee Ball scored four times to lead the 11th-ranked Badgers to the first win of a Big Ten title-winning season. { ALSO THIS WEEK 64 // VARSITY August 29, 2013 HITTING A HUNDRED NOVEMBER 1, 1890: After being hired earlier that year, Ted Mestre led Wisconsin to the program's first football victory in a 106-0 triumph over UW-Whitewater, the most points ever scored by the Badgers in program history. A WINNER FROM THE START SEPTEMBER 8, 1990: Barry Alvarez secures his first victory in a 24-7 win over Ball State in the home-opener at Camp Randall Stadium. It was UW's only victory that season. ALL THE WAY BACK AUGUST 23, 2002: In the earliest season opener in school history, the Badgers came from behind to defeat Fresno State, 23-21, on the strength of a Mike Allen 34-yard field goal with 2:05 left in the fourth quarter. Sophomore RB Anthony Davis ran for 184 yards while fullback Matt Bernstein scored on a pair of short TD runs in his Badgers debut.
