26 CLASS NOTES Colorado Mesa University Alumni /CMUalumni @CMUalumni Alumni through the years Dear CMU Alumni and Friends, Is this the year of the Mav? Some say it is, while others admit it could be. Even the skeptics believe there is some truth to the statement. You know what camp I'm in, and I couldn't be more honored to be your CMU Alumni Association Board president. We believe the Alumni Association is resting on the edge of an extraordinary year and every one of our alumni should be in a position to answer the call when it comes. Our recent alumni board retreat strengthened our focus and commitment to enhance the alumni experience. There is a tremendous number of activities associated with CMU and we want our alumni excited, engaged and participating in all those they enjoy. Refresh your Mav spirit! We are proud to be honoring this year's Distinguished Alumni Lori (Smith) Raya and Doug Simons, as well as two new Hall of Honor inductees Brett Armour and Lindsay (Blose) Icenogle. We are also excited to announce we are incorporating reunion years in this year's homecoming. We look forward to seeing members of the classes of 1958, 1968, 1978, 1988, 1998 and 2008. We have a challenge to the CMU alumni. There is a vision forming that when events take place in the community: a sporting event, an art or cultural affair, a new business venture or a new degree being established, that we turn the town maroon and white. We should be proud of our university, with a willingness to show our support. The Mav business owners, the Mav employees, the Mav social media experts — we want all Mavericks to do your part and show your Maverick spirit. Send pictures to the Alumni Association showing your efforts and support. We want to see the Maverick spirit stronger than ever! Lastly, even though we are graduates of CMU and brilliant in our own right, we do not have all of the answers for success. Since retiring he has relocated back to Colorado Springs. Eric remembers Graves and Issacson as outstanding professors. He and his wife plan to visit Grand Junction in the next few months to see all of the changes on campus. Vic Calonder, '88 After 15 years as a commercial loan officer in the Metro Denver area, Vic pyramid yet. He enjoyed Mesa for the small class sizes and getting to meet with professors one-on-one. The most valuable skills he took from his time in college was learning to finish a project that took years to accomplish. All four of Kevin's kids have attended CMU. 1990s Jason Rogers, '98 Jason lives in Littleton, Colorado, where he is the junior and adult director of tennis for the United States Tennis Association (USTA) Colorado and the Colorado Tennis Association. He is one was selected to become the branch president for Bank of Colorado's newest branch in Littleton, Colorado. Kevin VanGundy, '89 Kevin is currently living in Palisade and is happily employed as publisher of the BEACON Senior News, a vibrant monthly news magazine reporting on the local senior community. Kevin's youngest daughter, Olivia, is a junior at CMU this year and very involved in campus life. His son's wife, Sydni, also just started her freshman year at CMU.
