Third-year head coach Adia Barnes wel- comes a highly-touted, top-five recruiting classes and a number of transfers become eligible, coupled with five experienced returning players, the Wildcats look to be a much-improved team. • Arizona loses its leading scorer in JaLea Bennett who was one of two players on the team to score in double digits. But UA has an experienced core that includes sophomore Sam Thomas, the team's second-leading scorer and top rebounder, Destiny Graham, and the team's leading playmaker junior Lucia Alonso. • Redshirt-sophomore Aarion McDonald, redshirt-juniors Dominique McBryde and Tee Tee Starks joined the team last year as transfers and are set to make contributions on the court this season. McDonald, a transfer from Washington, was a highly-touted recruit and helped the Huskies to the NCAA Tournament while being named to the Pac-12 All-Freshman team. In two years at Purdue, McBryde accumulated 357 rebounds and 66 blocks, which tied for the 20th-most in program history. Starks comes to Tucson after two seasons at Iowa State where she had injury setbacks as a freshman but played in 31 games as a sophomore, starting in 14. • This year's freshman class includes four signees, including the program's first-ever McDonald's All-American in Cate Reese, who headlines a post lineup that all received national acclaim in high school. Reese is a five- star recruit and rated the fourth-best post in the country, and is joined by top post prospects Semaj Smith, and Shalyse Smith from Italy. The fourth signee is a local guard in Bryce Nixon from Phoenix who was named all-Arizona. • The Wildcats have had just one winning season since 2005-06, and with the senior leadership, experienced transfers and a very talented recruiting class, Barnes looks to end that trend in 2017-18.
